Zion Sewing Guild
Did you know the Zion Sewing Guild is one of the longest running ministries here at Zion – serving for 50 years?
A group of Zion volunteers meet every Wednesday morning from 9 am to 12:00 creating baby care kits; diapers, blankets, baby kimonos (robes), booties, sweaters and hats (from January to mid-May) and quilts (from mid-May to October). All items are donated to Lutheran World Relief who then distribute them all over the world.
No sewing experience? – No problem. There are non-sewing opportunities available for those who want to volunteer but do not sew.
-
We have ladies who press our baby kimonos and quilts. If you can handle an iron you can press anything.
-
Everyone knows how to tie a shoe so anyone can tie a quilt. To finish a quilt, three layers need to be tied together. We make it easy by using templates that lay over the quilt so the ties are spaced evenly. It’s that simple!
-
We also have patterns that need cutting out for kimonos (robes).
Cannot commit to Wednesday morning? – No Problem.
-
If you love to knit or crochet, we have some ladies who knit sweaters, booties and hats from home on their own time and bring them in.
-
If you love to quilt, we have fabric you can bring home to create quilt tops/backs and return for finishing.
-
If you just want to donate materials we would thankfully accept. We are always looking for clean used queen, king size sheets; unwanted cotton and flannel fabrics you may not need anymore.
No matter your skill level we would love for you to join us for friendly fellowship while we create items for those in need around the world. We would love to have you join us!
1 Peter 4:10: Each has received a gift to use for serving others, as good stewards of God’s grace.
